Chainmaille

Below are the weaves I am currently making, and suggestions for what they are best used for.
If you have seen another weave that you like that is not displayed here feel free to contact me
if you wish to have a piece with that weave made.

Byzantine

This is a beautiful weave that can have many variations and can easily be varied
to make a dense, heavyweight chain or an open, lightweight chain.
Byzantine also has a twisted version which is ideal for fancier bracelets and necklaces,
and can easily be decorated with gemstones, pearls or beads.
The version shown above is Twisted Byzantine

Trizantine

A variation of byzantine, this weave is dense and quite strong.
When made in larger or thicker rings this weave makes a
nice heavyweight bracelet or necklace.

Materials

Below are listed all of the different materials used in making my chainmaille jewellery.
This is divided into two sections, Rings (used for creating the jewellery),
and Clasps (displaying the different closures available).

Rings

Rings with their name in Green i do not have in stock but should be able to get.
This will add a week to the time it takes for me to ship your jewellery
and you will need to email me prior to placing an order to ensure that i am able to order the rings.

Sterling Silver
My favourite metal to work in, Sterling silver is 92.5% silver.
It does tarnish with age so it will need cleaning with a cleaning agent designed for Sterling Silver.

Titanium
Titanium is very light, very strong and very corrosion resistant and is a matte light grey colour.
Anodised Titanium varies slightly in colour, which creates a beautiful effect in finished pieces.
Contact with your skin can, over time, change the colour of the titanium but this can
easily be fixed by washing the jewellery is soapy water to remove the oils deposited by your skin.
Silver and Bronze titanium is in stock. Anodised Titanium is a matte colour, like natural titanium.
I should also be able to order in Blues (dark and light), gold,
purple, rose (pinkish red, green and violet.

Aluminium
The silver aluminium i have on offer is a very bright and shiny silver colour.
It is very light (only slighly heavier than titanium) and quite strong,
although excessive rough handling my bend the rings.
Many colours of aluminium are available. Anodised aluminium is a very vibrant colour.
This coloured coating is very durable but can be scratched by hard, pointy steel or metal.
Anodised aluminium is 3.5 times lighter than enamelled copper,
making it a much mroe economical alternative.
Please email me to check which colours/sizes are in stock.

Rubber
Rubber rings are great for creating solid pieces of jewellery where you don't want
to have to fiddle with a clasp or worry about the jewellery falling off.
The coloured rubber rings are EPDM ( a neoprene like compound, and black ones are neoprene.
Both of these compounds are extremely strong and return to their original size easily.
I recommend pairing these rings with aluminium or stainless steel.
as they are solid rings and cannot be linked to one another.
EPDM rings are UV resistant and so will not fade or become brittle from exposure to sunlight.
These rings are currently available in black, white, red, green, purple, orange, yellow and blue.

Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is strong, clean and corrosion resistant.
It takes a lot of deliberate effort to damage a piece make of stainless!

Brass
Brass is available in two types; Yellow Brass and Jeweller' Brass.
All brass is a combination of Copper and Zinc.
It is the proportion in which these two are combined that determines its strength and colour.
Brass does tarnish and can be cleaned with any commercially available brass cleaner.
Jewellers brass is a darker colour than yellow brass (closer to the colour of bronze)
and is available in limited sizes, limiting what can be done with it.

Bronze
Bronze is an alloy of Copper and Tin, that is a shiny, dark copper coloured metal.
It does tarnish and, over time, will turn the same colour as a bronze statue.
It is slightly more corrosion resistant than brass
and can be cleaned with any commercially available brass cleaner.

Niobium
Niobium is strong, corrosion resistant and hypoallergenic.
Lighter than silver and just as strong, it is a perfect material to make jewellery from.
Making it all the more perfect is that niobium, like aluminium and titanium, can be anodised.
The colours this process produces are vibrant and have a metallic sheen.
I am able to get plain (silver) niobium and anodised (coloured)niobium, in fourteen brilliant colours.

Copper
Copper is reddish in colour and corrodes very easily.
The colour it corrodes to depends on how what it is exposed to.
The copper rings are much stronger than the copper wire used for electrical work.

Enamelled Copper
Enamelled copper is copper coated in a layer of coloured enamel.
The the copper used is quite soft, so it is not recommended to use larger sized rings.
There are many amazing coloured enamels available, including silvered colours
(which are much lighter and brighter) and even a glow in the dark enamel!

14 Karat Gold Fill
14 karat gold fill wire rings are available in Yellow, White and Rose gold.
These rings consist of a 14K gold tube willed with Brass.
There is very little chance of wearing through the gold layer due to normal wear and tear.

Clasps

Heart Padlock

This is the clasp that i use for most of my ladies bracelets, and for some necklaces.

Handmade hook and loop

These clasps are handmade from sterling silver wire and are
used for all of my necklaces except the heaviest.

Tube Clasp

These clasps are very secure and I use them for the heavier
necklaces to make sure that they are securely fastened.
